In a world where men are often expected to be strong, provide, endure and move on, there are few spaces where they can simply be - without agenda, without performance, without the pressure to have the right answer. Boys, Beer & BBQ is one of those spaces.

Boys, Beer & BBQ is a facilitated gathering that brings together men across generations to explore the aspirations, pressures, joys, frustrations and questions that come with being a man today. Through interactive activities, storytelling and guided conversations, participants are invited to move beyond surface-level interactions into meaningful dialogue.

Together, they will examine the expectations placed on men, the ways patriarchy impacts all of us, and what it means to embrace vulnerability, connection and authenticity - without shame, guilt or fear.

This is a men’s circle: an intentional gathering of men in the Aprisio community for an afternoon of conversation, connection and good food. The format is relaxed and unstructured - cold beer, a BBQ spread, and the kind of easy conversation that happens when men feel genuinely at ease with each other.

The circle is a space to talk, to listen, to laugh - and sometimes to say the things that don’t usually get said. There is no agenda and no pressure. Just men, food, and honest company.

This is not therapy. It is not a lecture. It is a circle of conversation, reflection and shared humanity.

The Experience

The afternoon unfolds in a relaxed, circular setting - food and beer present throughout, but the real nourishment is in the conversation. Jim Tharakan facilitates the group using a blend of interactive activities that build trust, storytelling from men across different ages and stages, guided conversations that move from the surface to the real, and space for personal and collective reflection. The BBQ and beers are the backdrop. The conversations are the experience.

Jim Tharakan facilitates the session. Jim brings both personal experience and a practiced skill for creating spaces where men feel safe enough to be real. His approach is warm, grounded and free of preachiness - the circle moves at the pace of the people in it.
